Is there anyone else who is upset that they did away with the PSSA math preparatory class for high school? Is there anything we can do to see if we can get the school to add it back to the offered classes.

I am also concerned that this class was eliminated.  It would be much more proactive to have students take a prep class versus the current funding of multiple classes for kids who do poorly on the PSSA's.  My first child took the prep class and scored very high on the math section of the PSSA's, SAT's and ACT's.  The prep class definitely helped.

Our kids were successful on their SAT & ACT's as well.  It could be because we sent them to a tutor  to prepare them for the tests.  And, one time when our child was having problems with a particular class, we used a tutor to help get them over the hump.  It worked.

You can't expect the school to do it all.  If you want your child to succeed, you cannot acquiese your parental and educational responsibilities to the school district.  You have to make sure that you are involved and that you do what is best for them, regardless of what the school offers.  They are your children.

I appreciate what you said, however this parent can't afford anymore out money. That's unfortunate that my kid won't get the needed help because I can't count on the school, to which I pay unbelievably high taxes to. I want to help my child, but I can't afford it. So judging by your post that makes me a bad parent. I just don't think it's fair that some classes got the benefit of this class and others don't especially hearing now how helpful it was in the past.

There are ways to get help without spending more money. So in this respect, you are a bad parent.

Could you shed some light on what those options are because now I feel like a bad and stupid parent?  I have no idea what that would be.  Everyone no a days has their hands out for money, and I don't blame them.  I would love to hear all your ideas.

Everytime I hear or read the phrase "its not fair" it makes me want to vomit. It is the epitome of self absorption.  Life isn't fair, suck it up and rise above it.

Talk around your neighbors, there are lots of professional people that can give help. In my development, we have  7 engineers, 2 teachers, plus several business owners. All will help out on an occasional basis. Get a neighborhood study group organized. Ask friends for help. Contact local employers, many will offer employees to lead study groups or to individually tutor students. Look at internet help sites, etc

It does affect my kid, if you must know.  But its like the cash to clunkers program:  Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and some elected moron gives you $3500 for a $500 car.  But when the program is over, its over.

Suck it up and stop whining.  Be a parent and get the kid the help that he/she needs.  Another poster made some very good suggestions, ask around and find some help for your child.

You are just rude.  Stay off the site if you have nothing helpful to add.  Studying with a friend was helpful to me, and also an SAT workbook  which you could look for at Tj Maxx, Marshalls or Ollies, they sometimes have discounted books.
